Psychological Assessments (Forensic)
For clients
Sometimes circumstances arise that involve us in aspects of the legal system – either civil or criminal. In these circumstances, an expert assessment of the psychological issues or factors involved can be useful as part of the case that may be presented to the courts by your solicitor. Some examples would include:
- For Criminal matters (which include things like DUI charges, or other drug and alcohol related matters, as well as assault and other more serious charges), then a Pre-Sentencing report can be helpful in providing information about –
- How your mental state may have influenced your behaviour,
- Your degree of regret and remorse,
- The negative impact that the event has already had on your life,
- Detailed recommendations in respect of appropriate treatment.
These are complex areas and we work with your solicitor according to their instructions to answer the questions that they consider helpful to your case.
- For workplace injuries, the psychological impact of the injury (which might be the injury in the case of harassment and bullying as an example) will be relevant to compensation and treatment that may be paid for by your employer.
- For immigration matters, many solicitors specializing in this area prefer to obtain psychological assessments to inform decisions by the immigration authorities in respect of genuineness of your relationship, impact on you of a partner having to leave Australia, and in particular Family violence matters relating to partner visae. Again, we work according to your solicitor’s instructions.
